How can my child practice most effectively?
Identify trouble spots and repeat, repeat, repeat! Your child should concentrate the most energy on the parts of a song that are tricky for him or her. If you hear your son or daughter repeating the same few notes over and over, he or she is doing the right thing. When in doubt, look in your child's assignment booklet -- there are usually instructions on what to practice and how to practice it!
How long/how often should my child be practicing?
Ten to fifteen minutes of strategic practice per day is far more beneficial than a one-day-a-week "cram session" right before piano lessons!
What should my child wear to the recital?
Dress neatly -- dresses, skirts, and button down shirts are fine.
While my children are off from lessons, what can they do to practice?
Your teacher will give your student specific songs to practice and goals to work towards. Remind your student that, in order to remain on top of his or her studies, he or she must continuing practicing daily! Your teacher will give the student enough new material at your last lesson of the semester so that he or she should not run out of music to practice. Feel free to contact your teacher if you or your child has any questions.
