Studio Policy

Paula’s Teaching Philosophy:
Music is an equalizer because anyone can make it and everyone can love it.  My approach to teaching is based on the belief that every child has the propensity to develop an appreciation for music.  Every student has different interests, strengths, and weaknesses, and my piano program provides the right combination of flexibility and structure to maximize each individual’s success in music.

Objectives:
•    To develop facility and technique on the piano
•    To broaden musical and cultural perspective
•    To foster confidence in musical performance
•    To nurture discipline through diligent practice

Calendar:    The summer semester runs from June 1 through August 31.
The last two weeks in August are make-up weeks; you will only have a lesson those weeks if previously arranged by your teacher.

Lessons from September through December will be scheduled and an updated Studio Policy will be issued at the end of the summer semester.

Tuition:    Payments are made in monthly installments toward the total semester’s tuition. The monthly payment is determined by how many weeks are taught in the entire semester minus expected missed lessons due to holidays.  Please refer to the attached personal calendar and payment plan or contact Paula Nemerson for more information.

Payment is due on the first lesson of each month. If payment is not received by the 15th, there will be a $20 late penalty.

Checks may be made payable to “Paula Nemerson.”  There will be a $15 dollar penalty for checks returned for insufficient funds.

Make Up Policy:
There will be no refunds for missed lessons.  If 24 hours of notice is given, the lesson may be made up.  Advanced notice may be given by phone or e-mail.  All missed lessons due to inclement weather or teacher illness will be made up.

There is no reduction in tuition for tardiness by the student.  Lessons missed due to teacher illness or inclement weather will be made up at a mutually agreeable time.

Practice at Home: To develop good work habits, all students (regardless of age or level) are encouraged to set aside time for daily practice. A minimum of 15 minutes of practice each day is necessary for timely progress to be made.

Students are held responsible for the practice goals set by the teacher during each lesson.  These goals can be found in the student’s lesson notebook, and are the basis for discussion and instruction during subsequent lessons.  Please encourage your child to frequently refer to their lesson notebook.

Please be prepared at the beginning of each lesson with clean hands and short fingernails.

Teacher Contact:  Don’t hesitate to contact Paula with any questions regarding payment, scheduling, or lesson content.  You may contact Paula at the phone number or e-mail listed on page 1.

Termination:  The student or teacher may terminate lessons at any time.  If the student terminates lessons, there are no refunds made for paid tuition.
